IP Services Developer
Job Type: Full-Time
Description:
The IP Services developer is responsible for the design and development of new and existing ISP services. This role involves evaluating, designing and implementing key projects to improve services for internal and external customers. Initial projects will include working with network management tools to improve the usability & scalability of the systems and provide more accurate information to customers.
- Work as part of the systems team to design and implement new ISP services.
- Review existing IP services. Suggest possible improvements and design and
implement new solutions as appropriate.
- Complete projects and produce relevant documentation within defined timescales.
- Provide advanced technical support to customer-facing departments.
Requirements:
- Minimum of two years relevant experience in an ISP environment.
- Be able to demonstrate a good understanding of Internet protocols and the
ISP applications run by 4D (mail, web, DNS, news, etc.)
- In-depth practical knowledge of the following:
- Scripting languages: PHP, Perl
- Databases: mySQL
- Unix based operating systems: (FreeBSD/NetBSD, Solaris, Linux)
- Windows based operating systems: (Windows 2003)
- Significant experience working with monitoring and reporting platforms,
including practical knowledge of SNMP
- Experience with Intel and Sun based hardware
- Be able to demonstrate strong awareness of ISP and Unix/Windows security
issues
- Working knowledge of the following would be beneficial:
- Load-balancing and clustering technologies in an ISP environment.
- Commercial and freely available monitoring tools (e.g. Infovista, Netcool,
Nagios, Cricket, MRTG)
- Cisco and Juniper hardware
- Capacity planning techniques for IP Networks and ISP services
- Experience of planning and documenting technical projects
- Effective time management skills and the ability to meet targets and deadlines
- Good communication skills and able to interact well with other departments
